The call is following revelations by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) that over seven million PVCs have not been collected nationwide, and 1,400,000 of them were from Lagos State.

INEC introduced the use of smart card readers prior to the 2015 elections, this made the issuance of PVCs as part of the identification and authentication process very necessary.

After the 2015 elections, over 12 million PVCs were yet to be collected and remained in the custody of the electoral body.

She said: “With previous elections, Nigerians developed voter apathy due to a distrust of the system. The 2015 elections taught us however, that as individuals, our votes counts. Thus we must rise up as citizens to fulfill our civic responsibility in governance.”

Senator Oluremi Tinubu also pleaded with INEC, that the period should be extended and should include weekends to allow those who were unable to visit the registration centers during work hours to do so at weekends.

She said INEC should ensure that it had adequate resources to make the process quick and easy as the long queues slow processes discouraged people from trying to register.
