Tinsel aired its 2000th episode on Thursday, 23rd March.
Nigeria’s longest running and one of the most successful drama series, Tinsel has aired its 2000th episode on AfricaMagic Showcase. This is a major and unique milestone!
It was certainly a landmark episode. To celebrate, we bring you some facts about Africa’s most successful soap opera that you probably didn’t know.

- Tinsel Episode 1 debuted on Monday 1st of September, 2008.
- Story creation, scripting, set design and construction, production and post-production is done in Nigeria, by Nigerians.
- The show has survived several horrifying challenges including the complete burning of her Ojota studios in 2013 as well as the flooding of some parts of her Ilupeju studios in 2016 and yet, has never gone black on air.
- The youngest actors to have featured on Tinsel came on board as 2-week old babies, and both are still acting on the show.
- Tinsel has featured brilliant stunts such as actor falling in water, adrenaline-pumping car chase scenes, mafia-style prisoner hijack and a lot of gunfire sequences.
- The show has survived several horrifying challenges including the complete burning of her Ojota studios in 2013 as well as the flooding of some parts of her Ilupeju studios in 2016 and yet, has never gone black on air.
- Tinsel’s plot revolved around two rival film companies: Reel Studios, founded by Fred Ade-Williams (Victor Olaitan), and Odyssey Pictures, headed by Brenda “Nana” Mensah (Funmilola Aofiyebi-Raimi).
- The show’s 1000th episode was aired on May 23, 2013, and for nine years it has continued to introduce talented actors to its Nigerian audience. It has created remarkable characters such as Shalewa, Phillip Ade-Williams, Soji, Brenda, Chuks, Titi K and Sheila.
- Tinsel won its first Africa Magic Viewers Choice Award at the 2017 edition, where it earned the Best M-Net Original Drama Series.
- The oldest actor is Taiwo Ajai Lycett, a 76-year-old movie veteran. Other casts in Tinsel include: Ireti Doyle, Gideon Okeke, Linda Ejiofor, Gbenro Ajibade,and Bimbo Manuel, among others.
