5 Homosexuals Arrested by NPF in Lagos

5 young men between the ages of 20 - 31, Marvellous, Dara, Ezeugo, Akachukwu and Abuchi were picked up by men of the Nigerian Police Force, after fighting broke out at about 2.18am at Egbe area of Ikotun Lagos over transmission of the sexually transmitted disease HIV.

One of the men Ezeugo, allegedly infected one of his lovers with the deadly disease and was about to engage in intercourse with another lover who he brought into the house before the allegedly infected man raised an alarm.

At that point, all hell broke loose and the vicinity was soon turned into a war zone until their co-tenants put a distress call across to the police and they were picked up at about 3.00am.

They were arrested in violation of the Same Sex Prohibition Act 2014

An Act to prohibit a marriage contract or civil union entered into between persons of same sex, solemnization of same; and for related matters.

Prohibition of marriage or civil union by persons of same sex enacted from the national assembly

Offences and Penalties

  1. (1)A person who enters into a same sex marriage contract or civil union commits an offence and is liable on conviction to a term of 14 years imprisonment.

(2) A person who registers, operates or participates in gay clubs, societies and organization, or directly or indirectly makes public show of same sex amorous relationship in Nigeria commits an offence and is liable on conviction to a term of 10 years imprisonment.

(3) A person or group of persons who administers, witnesses, abets, or aids the solemnization of a same sex marriage or civil union, or supports the registration, operation and sustenance of gay clubs, societies, organizations, processions or meetings in Nigeria commits an offence and is liable on conviction to a term of 10 years imprisonment.

Two of the five arrested men, are from Lagos state, while the other three are from Cross River state.
