Rivers State’s Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has commended the state House of Assembly for passing some laws in order to help in curbing the increasing crime rate, especially kidnapping in the state. The new laws include;
1) Rivers State Kidnap (Prohibition) Amendment Law, 2015.
2) Rivers State Traditional Rulers Law,2015
3) Rivers State Kenule Beeson Saro-Wiwa Polytechnic, Bori ( Amendment) Law, 2015.
The governor of Rivers State Nyesom Ezenwo Wike expressed his views when he gave his accent to the bills. Saying that he is elated about the new law of kidnapping, as it will go a long way in helping the security agencies in their fight against kidnappers.

The governor also made some comments on the 2nd bill he accented to. He said that the state is working on bringing back dignity and honor to the traditional institution. He also said that politicization of the traditional institution is unnecessary.
Governor Nyesom Ezenwo Wike later spoke highly of the National Assembly and urged them to make the interest of the state their priority. Kidnapping has been a serious menace in the South Eastern region of the country for a while now.
