Nigerian televangelist and pastor of mega-church Synagogue Church of All Nations, TB Joshua has lodged an appeal against a high court ruling that he testifies in court about the collapse of his church’s guesthouse that claimed the lives of 116 people in September 2014. Explaining why TB Joshua was not present at the inquest yesterday, his lawyer, Seun Abimbola said;
“We have filed a notice of appeal in respect of the high court ruling. We have also asked for a stay of execution of the judgment.”
The coroner, Oyetade Komolafe however insisted that TB Joshua ought to be present since there was already a court ruling to that effect. He told the prophet’s lawyer;
He is supposed to be here. I would have reminded you by issuing a bench warrant for his arrest but I don’t want to do that. I want you to now give a date you are bringing him to court.
Also reacting, the counsel representing the Lagos State Government in the case, Akinbolahan Adediran said that the high court judgement still stands since parties involved have not been served with the notice of appeal.
The Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria has blamed the collapse of the building on structural defects.
The hearing has been adjourned till Friday. Hopefully, TB Joshua will appear in court then.
