Early hours of today, actress, Lupita Nyong’o‘s dress was quietly returned to London Hotel in West Hollywood, Los Angeles. The return also came with the speculation that the pearls used for making the dress may be fake.
According to TMZ reports, the culprit called their office around 2.30pm yesterday that he had taken the dress from Lupita Hotel room when he noticed the door was opened. He confessed that he stole the $150,000 Calvin Klein dress from Lupita Nyong’o‘s room alongside two accomplices. He however claimed to have taken two (2) pearls off the dress to a garment district in downtown Los Angeles, where he was told the pearls weren’t real.
It was earlier revealed that Lupita Nyong’o Oscar dress is made of pearls (6,000 Akoya pearls) valued at $150,000. However, TMZ has reported that the thief has returned the dress back to her hotel, where it was put inside a trash bag placed in the 2nd floor bathroom opposite a fitness center in the hotel.
TMZ revealed they contacted L.A County Sheriff Department to report the information given by the culprit. The Police went to the hotel to confirm the information and they were able to recover the bag where the Lupita Nyong’o‘s dress was hidden. There has been no confirmed information as to whether the thieves fake pearls story is true or not.
