A nude painting has been sold for a second highest bid record fee for an art work yesterday.
An Italian artist Modigliani has broken record with his nude painting which was sold on Monday at auction for $170.4m (£113m), the second-highest price ever for a work sold at auction.
Nu couche [reclining nude] being the name of the painting was painted during 1917 and 1918. It was estimated tto have fetched the painter more than $100m before tthe auction took place.
Both the auction prize and the money generated on the painting before the auction was a record fee for the artiste.
The painting was said to have never been sold at an auction before, having been in the same private collection for about 60 years.
The top price achieved for an art work at auction was Picasso’s Les femmes d’Alger which sold for $179m (£118.5m).
However, Liu Yiquan, a Chinese billionaire has confirmed to the New York Times that he had purchased the nude painting.
