Two suspected robbers have allegedly escaped from a police cell by cutting the burglary bars in the cell.
According to Punch News, two suspected robbers broke out of a police cell in Iju Road, in the Agege area of Lagos.
The suspected robbers were allegedly arrested when they laid siege to a hotel and some residences of Sands Avenue, off Iju Road. Three of the robbers in a ten-man-gang were apprehended by the local vigilante group in the area. They were handed over to the Pen Cinema Police Division before they escaped.
According to the manager of the hotel that was raided, the robbers carted away a number of valuable items and raped from female workers in the hotel.
They carted away valuables. They raped some of our female workers during the operation. I was told that the OPC men later caught three of them and took them to the police station.
The three robbers identified as Dare Drain, Akeem AK, and Lekan Student, were locked up in the cell by the policemen on duty.
However, reports have it that two of the suspects had cut through the burglarly bars in the cell and escaped. The residents of the raided area have expressed their dismay in the escape of the suspects.
But as we speak, we have not got them. What the police told us was that the robbers cut the burglar bars, and escaped from the cell. The robbers, apart from carting away money, also raped their victims.
The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Patricia Amadin, however, claimed that the news in untrue.
