The president has applauded Team Nigeria for emerging second in the just concluded African Games In Congo Brazzaville.
President Muhammadu Buhari has congratulated Team Nigeria to their impressive performance in the just concluded African Games in Congo. Team Nigeria cliched the second position after Egypt in the competition.
In a statement issued by Malam Garba Shehu, the President’s Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, in Abuja on Sunday, President Buhari applauded the team for their splendid performance.
President Buhari singled out for special commendation, the basketball team, D’Tigers Basketball team.
The D’Tigers had earlier earned the nation a Gold medal (at the Tunis African Basketball competition) for the first time in 50 years, and by which feat the country got an automatic ticket to the Rio Olympic Games in 2016. The president thanked the athletes for presenting Nigeria in a good light at the competition.
At the close of competitive African Games on Friday night, Nigeria had pushed South Africa to the third position having won 47 gold medals. On the final medals table, Egypt emerged overall best with a total of 217 medals. The breakdown shows 85 gold, 64 silver and 68 bronze medals. South Africa came third with a total of 122 medals – 41 gold, 41 silver and 40 bronze medals. Team Nigeria got a total of 144 medals.
