American singer and music producer, Pharrell has finally released a first public statement about the court judgement passed on him and Robin Thicke over their hit single, “Blurred Line” after they were taken to court by the family of Marvin Gaye as a result of alleged copyright infrigement.
According to the judgement, Pharrell Willams and Robin Thicke are to pay the Gaye‘s family the sum of $7.3 Million. In a chat with Financial Times, Pharrell said;
The verdict handicaps any creator out there who is making something that might be inspired by something else. If we lose our freedom to be inspired, we’re going to look up one day and the entertainment industry as we know it will be frozen in litigation.
This is about protecting the intellectual rights of people who have ideas. There are no solid plans to appeal the verdict right now.
