A petrol tanker tumbled and spilled 30,000 litres of fuel, causing a serious fire outbreak in Mushin.
A petrol tanker carrying 30,000 litres of fuel tumbled and spilled its content in Mushin Local Government Area of Lagos State. According to reports, two persons, including the tanker driver were injured. And three buses were burnt. As the petrol tanker tumbled and caught fire, many residents trooped out to quench the fire.
According to the Nation Newspaper, Area Executive Secretary of Odi-Olowo/Ojuwoye Local Council Development, Rasaq Ajala, was at the scene of the incident. He was the one that called the the Lagos State Fire Fighters. The injured driver of the petrol tanker took to his heels.
Emmanuel Okeke, an eyewitness, claimed that the tanker driver was over speeding without minding the deep potholes along the road. Ademola Adegoke, another eyewitness alleged that;
The tanker driver escaped through smashed windscreen and sustained injuries. When the fire started around midnight. We alerted the residents in the neighbourhood and also called the fire station for help. The fire fighters arrived the scene around 1am. The buses were given out to the owners on higher purchase. Government intervention is urgently needed on this road.
This market would have been burnt to ashes if not for the timely intervention of street boys. We, the street boys were the ones that tried to subdue the fire before the arrival of the fire fighters.
The General Manager of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Micheal Akindele, applauded the Divisional Police Officers of Mushin and Idi-Oro for providing adequate security while the fire lasted. He also praised the residents for their prompt response to avert a disaster.
