Oscar Leonard Carl Pistorius is a South African sprint runner. Although both of Pistorius’ legs were amputated below the knee when he was 11 months old, he has competed in events for single below-knee amputees and for able-bodied athletes.
Oscar was sentenced to five years in prison in October 2014. He was convicted of killing his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp, on Valetine’s Day two years ago. He said he had mistaken Steenkamp for an intruder hiding in the bathroom, but he was arrested and charged with murder. At his trial the following year, Pistorius was found guilty of culpable homicide
Oscar Pistorius will be mostly confined to the home of his uncle, Arnold, a high-walled manor in the leafy suburb of Waterkloof that features more than a dozen bedrooms, a private gym, outdoor swimming pool and landscaped gardens. Oscar Pistorius is expected to wear an electronic tracking tag when released on Friday.
As regards why he was released, South African prison authorities claim that the prisons are overcrowded and underfunded. So the authorities have considered parole as a way of decongsting the prison.
