Former President, Olusegun Obasanjo celebrates his 78th birthday today, March 5th. The ex-president who served under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for eight years between (1999 – 2007) on Wednesday displayed his soccer skills as he captained his team christened “OBJ Football Team” in a soccer match against the “Ogun State Execution Team” captained by Governor Ibikunle Amosun. The match was staged at Mooshod Abiola Stadium, Abeokuta, as a part of the events organized to mark the former president’s birthday.
Chief Obasanjo scored two goals for his team, defeating the Amosun team which scored just one goal. The Governor was honored as the Most Valuable Player of the match, while Olusegun Obasanjo won the golden boot award and Akin Mabogunje won best goalkeeper of the match.
Olusegun Obasanjo spoke to journalists after the match expressing his satisfaction about his ability to partake in sport activities at his age.
I am satisfied and fulfilled, even at my age I cherish sport, because it is relevant to health and we should all endeavour to engage in sporting activities.
