The Nigerian Senate has postponed the screening of former Minister of Defense, Musiliu Obanikoro till next week, while it went further to screen four other nominees presented by the President, Goodluck Ebele Jonathan.
This is the second time in a week Obanikoro‘s screening had to be adjourned by the senate. Obanikoro was nominated by President Goodluck Jonathan earlier this year after his gubernatorial pursuit under the flagship of People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos State failed during the primary elections.
Ever since reports of a leaked audio conversation allegedly featuring Obanikoro and Governor Ayo Fayose plotting to rig last year June Ekiti State governorship election surfaced, opposition party All Progressively Congress (APC) senators in the senate have vowed to oppose Obanikoro‘s nomination as minister.
Senate President, David Mark reportedly dropped Obanikoro‘s name today from screening to avoid controversy with the APC senators who are opposed to his nomination.
Reports claim former Minister of Defense, Musiliu Obanikoro was seen looking disappointed as he exited the venue while refusing to grant an interview to the pressmen waiting to speak with him outside the Senate house.
