Nigerian President Jonathan’s National Security Adviser, Colonel Sambo Dasuki (Retired) has called for the postponement of the February polls. He said it was important to postpone since the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has not distributed the Permanent Voters’ Cards (PVC) across the country as expected.
As a National Security Adviser to the president, one would expect him to base his reason on the current security situation in the country, rather than on PVC.
There are speculations on the social media that the call is sponsored by the president, to elongate his tenure since his popularity is “dwindling as that of General Buhari increases.”
So far, INEC has denied knowledge of this call for postponement.
Colonel Dasuki is a well trained military officer who was ADC to former Head of State, General Ibrahim Babangida. He also served under former President Olusegun Obasanjo.
