Nigeria’s D’Tigers have won the 2015 African Basketball Championship in Tunisia after beating old nemesis Angola by 74 points to 65.
Nigeria’s national male basketball team, D’Tigers, has won their first ever FIBA Afrobasket Championship. Nigeria’s D’Tigers won the 2015 African Basketball Championship in Tunisia after beating old nemesis Angola by 74 points to 65.
With the victory, the Nigeria Basketball team has also qualified directly for the 2016 Rio Olympics, holding in Brazil.
A Nigerian basketballer, Chamberlain Oguchi scored 19 points and was voted the Most Valuable Player of the tournament.
The Nigeria Basketball Team was also voted the best team of the tournament.
The Angolans were very aggressive and made 33 fouls compared to just 14 from D’Tigers with the Nigerians also dominant on the glass with 60 rebounds – 24 offensively and 36 on the defensive end. Alade Aminu led the team in blocks with 12 and he added four points.
Captain of the team, Olumide Oyedeji, had said the team was the most talented of the teams that came to Tunisia and that claim was justified even though one of their best players, Ike Diogu, did not play a single minute of the competition because of a twisted ankle.
The team is expected to continue its good performance in the coming Olympic Games in Brazil.
