Nigerian athletes are set to make the country proud in the International Athletics Association Federation IAAF competition. The IAAF competition is coming up next week Saturday in Beijing, China.
Blessing Okagbare, a Nigerian sprinter and fastest woman in Africa has vowed to win medals in the competition.
The other Nigerian athletes are also in high spirit and are confident that they will do well in the competition.
Today, COMPLETE SPORTS released the statistics of the 17 athletes that will be representing Nigeria in the competition.

This will be Blessing’s third appearance at the championship after a let injury stopped her debut in Berlin in 2009.She made her debut in Daegu in 2011 and made it to the 100m final where she came fifth in 11.12 seconds.She went a step lower two years later in Moscow,placing sixth in 11.04 seconds.In the long jump she finished 18th on the placing table with her 6.36m leap in 2011 but returned stronger in 2013 to claim a silver medal (6.99m),Nigeria’s first by a woman in the event. She also made the podium in the 200m two years ago,winning a bronze medal with 22.32 seconds.

This will be Gloria’s third World Championship.She made her debut in 2011 and ran the first leg in the 4x100m team that placed seventh in the final.The team was anchored by Blessing Okagbare.She was also in Moscow two years ago but couldn’t make it past the 100m semi-finals.

She made her debut two years ago in Moscow and ran the third leg in the 4x100m team that was disqualified in the final after passing the baton outside the takeover zone.

Regina will be making her second appearance at the championship in Beijing.In her debut two years ago,she ran as far as the semi-finals,running a new 50.84 seconds personal best.Since then however,her performance has been very ordinary.She ended 2014 with a personal season’s best of 51.30 seconds.This on-going
season,her season’s best is also 51.30 seconds.
PATIENCE OKON GEORGE

Currently Nigeria and Africa’s fastest woman in the event,Patience is also making a return to the championships after making her debut two years ago in Moscow where she ran the second leg in the 4x400m relay team that placed sixth (3:27.57) in the final.This will however her first time of running the individual full lap race at the Championship.

Etim is making her second appearance in the championships.She was a member of the 4x400m relay team that finished 8th (3:29.82) in the final in Daegu,South Korea in 2011.She ran the third leg.

This will be Doreen’s second appearance at the worls after making history in her debut in Daegu 2011 as the first Nigerian woman to participate in the event. She made it to the final and her 1.93m clearance placed her eight in the final classification.

Uhunoma will be making her debut at the IAAF Worlds in Beijing and will be the first Nigerian athlete to compete in the event.She competed at the 2012 Olympics in London but couldn’t complete the events.She holds the national record at 6106 points and her target should be improving on her Nigerian record.

Amaka is making her second appearance at the championship.She first participated in 2009 in Berlin where she was caught for spicing her system with performance enhancing substances.
