The Mirabel Centre has raised alarm over the high rate of rape in the country.
The Mirabel Centre has vociferously spoken against the high rate of rape cases in the country. The Mirabel Centre is aimed at rehabilitating victims of rape. In a one-day programme organized by the centre, a number of stakeholders in the society were present to speak against rape.
Participants of the programme condemned the alarming rate of rape cases in the country. They also called for adequate prosecution of offenders.
Mirabel’s Managing Partner, Mrs. Itoro Eze-Anaba, told newsmen that the community needed to be involved in the campaign to prevent the crime from overwhelming the society.
Eze-Anaba who lamented the level at which female minors are being violated described the call as a clarion one, tasking participants to take the message back to their various communities so that the awareness can be spread wider. According to her, eighty percent of rape victims are minors, below the age of eighteen. The managing partner of the Mirabel Centre said all hands should be on deck to stem the tide of rape in the society.
Director of Public Prosecutions, Lagos State Ministry of Justice, Mrs. Elizabeth Idowu Alakija commended Mirabel centre, pointing out that the event was apt, paving the way on how justice can be better served to victims of sexual assault and rape. She claimed that her office receives at least, 10 cases from sexual violence a day.
She called on parents to be watchful of their children and educate their children on how to protect themselves from abusers
