Academy Award winner, Mexican-Kenyan actress and film director Lupita Nyong’o‘s $150,000 pearl-encrusted Oscar Awards dress has allegedly been stolen from her hotel room in London Hotel in West Hollywood.
The custom Calvin Klein gown, that was made up of over 6,000 pearls, was reportedly taken from her room on Tuesday night, 24th of February, 2015.
According to reports, Lupita told police that the expensive attire was snatched between 8pm and 9pm in her absence. Law enforcement officers are searching through video footage from the hotel to apprehend the criminal.
The London Hotel management, which was not pleased with the mishap released this statement:
“This is a terribly unfortunate situation, and we are working with law enforcement on their investigation.”
The 12 Years a Slave star dazzled on Sunday night at the Academy Awards held at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, wearing the beautiful attire.
The fashion designer, Francisco Costa, who handmade the garment for Lupita Nyong’o, told press men at the event that he has been working closely with Lupita over the past few months. “We decided to use natural pearls to create a truly modern, timeless dress that compliments her style and echoes the aesthetic of Calvin Klein Collection,” he said
