Jack Bauer may not be in the next season of 24 that is currently being written by Emmy Award winning 24 writers Evan Katz and Manny Coto.
The Executive Producer of the show, Howard Gordon disclosed all these to Yahoo TV. He said
Evan and Manny are writing a script right now, which, for the moment is a Jack-less 24. The possibility is always there for Jack… There’s an open door, basically, but I think both Kiefer and we, I think correctly, felt that this character needed a little bit of a break. We really believe that real-time concept is just a really cool narrative engine, so they’re telling a story, Evan and Manny, that I think is in the tradition of 24.
In the last season, we saw Jack Bauer being transported to Moscow in a helicopter by very angry Russians who wanted to deal with him and put him to dead. If Katz and Manny really decides to exclude Jack Bauer from this season, it will be denote then that the Russians did actually kill him or decides to keep him in some torture cell from which he might escape in a subsequent season (if there will be!).

Is it possible that the producers of 24 are trying to exclude Jack Bauer because they are trying to offload Kiefer Sutherland whose salary was $40 million for three seasons in 2006, making him the highest earning TV actor?
In a December 2008, Howard Gordon had told OK! Magazine that it would be an unbearable loss if they killed Kiefer Sutherland‘s character (Jack Bauer). Will you watch 24 without Jack Bauer?
