Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Chairman Professor Attahiru Jega addressed the media today in Abuja. Jega started his press statement by apologising for the late commencement of election across the nation. He also thanked Nigerians for massive turn out and peaceful conduct, says their behaviour was remarkable despite facing difficulties. Jega said;
I am happy about the North East INEC officials for conducting election for physically challenged in Adamawa, Yobe and Borno.
Attahiru Jega said states like Osun, Borno, Jigawa, Anambra, Ebonyi, Akwa Ibom had to use manual process for voting due to difficulties encountered trying to use the card readers. Jega said elections are going on in 10 states today due to delay and non appearance of INEC personnel at polling units.
He said elections are taking place in 90 polling units in Lagos, 16 polling units in Kebbi, 6 polling units in Niger, 37 polling units in Yobe, 8 polling units in Borno, 116 polling units in Taraba, 2 polling units in Abuja, 37 polling units in Jigawa and 13 polling units in Kano.
Attahiru Jega spoke on the Rivers State crisis, he said APC leaders had contacted INEC seeking cancellation of elections and re-conducting elections. Jega said thorough investigation is going on and decision will be made public soon.
He also urged Nigerians to exercise patience as results will be out tomorrow. Jega said first collation of election results is expected in Abuja today. He also spoke on the crisis regarding the burning down on INEC office in Rivers State, he said investigations are going on as they have contacted security official to take appropriate measures.
