Controversial Nigerian rapper, Eedris AbdulKareem recently accused President Buhari of killing Fela Kuti when the former was a military head of state.
Popular Nigerian rapper, Eedris AbdulKareem accused President Buhari of killing the Afrobeat legend, Fela Anikulapo-Kuti. The former Remedies rapper said this on stage at the Felabration festival.
Fela ‘Abami Eda’ Anikulapo-Kuti was arrested several times under various military regimes. Fela was sentenced to five years in prison under the then Buhari-led government for currency smuggling in 1983, something several rights groups like Amnesty International, considered politically motivated.
The late Afrobeat icon only regained his freedom two years later when Gen. Ibrahim Babangida came into power in a coup that ousted Buhari.
Seun Kuti, son of Fela ‘Abami Eda’, also showed dissatisfaction when Buhari was back as a democratic president. He was reported by The Guardian UK as saying about Buhari:
For you to jail that man you must be inherently evil.
Eedris AbdulKareem, on October 16 ranted on stage about Buhari killing ‘Abami Eda’. As reported by Naijaside, rapper vented that;
In 1976, na Buhari kill Fela. Na the same old people dey rule us.
Same rapper Eedris AbdulKareem had a serious problem with former president Olusegun Obasanjo, with his song “Nigeria Jaga Jaga”.
