A Federal High Court has freed a former aviation minister, Femi Fani-Kayode of the money laundering charges leveled against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission(EFCC). It should be noted that the Ex-minister’s trial has began since 2008.
The sitting judge, Magistrate Rita Ofili-Ajumogobia dismissed 38 of the 40 counts the EFCC prosecutor, Barr. Festus Keyamo leveled against Mr Fani-Kayode and requested for proofs.
The EFCC prosecutor, Keyamo urged the court to uphold the remaining two counts and convict the Fani-Kayode.He argued that the object of charge was that Mr Fani-Kayode transacted in cash sums above N500,000 ,which was against the Money Laundering Act.The Judge gave the verdict that Mr Fani-Kayode be discharged and acquitted.
The accused Ex-Minister, Mr Femi Fani-Kayode was the Chairman of the ‘Goodluck Jonathan Campaign Group’ and is also a member of the Peoples’ Democratic Party.
