After being forced to withdraw from public domain, Cecilia Ibru, former MD of moribund Oceanic Bank, is back.
Cecilia Ibru, the former Managing Director of the defunct Oceanic Bank, now owns a private university. Her family’s newly approved private university, Michael and Cecilia Ibru University, Delta State, which was among the few private institutions recently approved by the Nigerian University Commission (NUC), made a formal presentation to the Delta State government.
Ibru is in a happy mood again after she suffered a reversal of fate when she was hit by the Sanusi Lamido Sanusi-led Central Bank of Nigeria Tsunami, following allegation of financial recklessness. The respected banker was forced to withdraw from the public domain after the sad episode.
Fortunately Cecilia Ibru has bounce back to the public domain, as she is heavily involved in a lot of philanthropy gestures. Her platform of service to humanity is the Michael and Cecilia Ibru Foundation founded in 2006.
Cecilia Ibru, who holds a B.Sc. in Sociology from the University of London and a Masters of Philosophy from the School of Oriental and African Studies in 1977, joined the Ibru organisation as Project Director. Two years after, she was appointed International Finance Coordinator, a position she held until 1990. She began working with the defunct Oceanic Bank in 1990 as General Manager and was promoted Managing Director and CEO seven years after.
