An eight (8) year old suicide bomber suspected to be a member of the Boko Haram terror group struck today, Sunday, killing about 6 people and injuring about 19 others in a market in Potiskum, a town in North Eastern Nigeria.
Those who were injured have been sent to the hospital for treatments. Eye witnesses who were in the market at the time of the explosion confirmed the incident.
The hit on Potiskum market is the second attack of its kind. A fifteen (15) year old female suicide bomber also detonated a bomb in the same market earlier this year.
There are speculations that the girls being used in these suicide attacks are some of those that were abducted by Boko Haram from a school in Chibok, Borno State, last year. The group has however claimed that the girls have been married away to Islamic husbands.
The Nigerian Army in collaboration with forces from five neighboring countries including Niger, and Cameroon seem to be winning the fight against Boko Haram in recent times. But how will the fight against suicide bombing be won in crowded, unregulated market places like that in Potiskum?
