The Nigerian National Orientation Agency (NOA) has uncovered plans by Boko Haram to start using cows, goats and chickens to send and detonate bombs at Automatic Teller Machine (ATM) points, market places, restaurants and political rallies.
The Director-General of the National Orientation Agency who also doubles as the Coordinator of National Information Centre revealed this at a briefing on Thursday and advised Nigerians to be vigilant. He also said that the terror group is arming young male cobblers for suicide attacks, as they can hide explosives in their toolboxes and detonate them in populated areas, including worship centres.
He said “available intelligence reports indicate a plan by Boko Haram to use young male suicide bombers disguised as cobblers (shoemakers) to hide explosives in their tool boxes and detonate them in soft target areas such as markets, restaurants, ATM locations, political rallies, worship centres, as well as other public places.”
The NOA Director General said “Also there is indication of a plan by this group to use livestock (such as goats, cows, donkeys and camels) laden with explosives to attack chosen targets. In view of these, the general public, including all persons operating within and around the aforementioned places, is advised to be vigilant and mindful of suspicious activities within their environment.”
He also revealed that the 192 persons released by Boko Haram recently are currently receiving counselling and will be integrated back to society soon.
