The federal government has selected the Alaafin of Oyo as the new Chancellor of the University of Maiduguri.
The Alaafin of Oyo has been appointed as the Chancellor of the University of Maiduguri by the federal government.
The Alaafin of Oyo, Oba (Dr.) Lamidi Olayiwola Adeyemi III was presented the letter of appointment by the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof. Ibrahim A. Njodi.
The Vice-Chancellor was accompanied by principal officials of the University Of Maiduguri to present the letter of the monarch.
They also briefed the Alaafin on the states of affairs in the university. They mentioned that the school which took off in 1976 with just about 300 students in three faculties now has over 40 thousand undergraduate, postgraduate and non-regular students in eleven Faculties, a College of Medical Sciences and the Seven specialized research and development centres in the university.
They also informed the Alaafin of Oyo that there are more than three thousand senior and junior academic and non-academic staff in the institution.
Prof Njodi also briefed the chancellor on the coming 40th anniversary of the institution and the 22nd convocation ceremony which will be held towards the end of the year.
The Alaafin of Oyo, Oba (Dr.) Lamidi Olayiwola Adeyemi III, claimed that university administration is not new to him as he was the founding Chancellor of Usman Dan Fodio University in Sokoto state.
