A cleaner who works with a concessionaire at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, Josephine Agwu, returned about N12 million that she found while at work proving beyond any doubt, that we still have good Samaritans in Nigeria.
Josephine who earns just N7,000 monthly found the money while cleaning a toilet close to the screening point of the departure area on the 23rd of January 2015.
Speaking about her experience, she stated that she was obeying the policy of the airport over missing belongings when she found the bag with huge sum of money.
A passenger on Emirates Airlines, identified as Samuel from Anambra State, later showed up to claim possession of the bag and its contents from the aviation security after much screening. The man only thanked her and walked away with the money.
When asked if she had any regrets for her actions, Josephine who claimed she has a strong Christian background, said “If I have taken what doesn’t belong to me, God will punish me. I am contented with my N7,800 monthly salary. It was not my money. I believe when it pleases God, he will bless the work of my hands and he will make me rich.
“This is not the first time I am doing this. This is the third time in this airport. The first was in the departure area. It belonged to a Nigerian. The second was at the screening point, it belonged to a white man. Of all, only the white man rewarded me with $50, which I rejected until my colleagues prevailed on me to collect it.”
Hopefully there are more Josephine Agwus in Nigeria.
