With spread of the Lassa Fever disease in the country, Lagos State Chapter of the Environmental Health Officers Association of Nigeria on Monday, revealed that they have killed at least 7,243 rats at eight major markets in the state,as a means to curb the spread of the disease.
Mr. Samuel Akingbehin, while speaking at a health seminar organized by the Ministry of Local Government Community Affairs, mentioned the markets the rats where killed.
Mr Samuel, said the killing of 7,243 rats was carried out at Onigbongbo, Oshodi, Oke-Odo, Ikotun Idanwo, Ojuwoye, Mile 12 and Alaba Rago Markets in the state.
According to him, the exercise was part of the association’s plans to stop the spread of Lassa Fever in Lagos state.
The exercise is strategic to our efforts aimed at preventing communicable diseases. We have begun the programme since the outbreak of Lassa fever.
Lassa Fever has claimed two lives in Lagos State already.
