Shannon Maureen Conley has been sentenced to jail for four years for attempting to join ISIS and marry one of its fighters. Recall that American President declared war on the terrorist group last year.
Shannon was said to have converted to Islam and quickly began to interact with individuals with extremist views. That was the first time she was really introduced to the concept of Jihad and decided to join in the fight to “defend Muslims.”
“Even though I was committed to the idea of jihad, I didn’t want to hurt anyone,” she told CNN.
She somehow met an ISIS fighter and spoke with him on Skype. Her father, John Conley, according to reports, caught her talking to him and refused when they asked for his blessing.
He called the FBI when he found her flight ticket to Turkey in their home. She was arrested at the Denver International Airport and when quizzed, she admitted she was going to Turkey to wait for further information from the 32 year old Tunisian ISIS fighter suitor she met on the internet, who was at that point in Syria. Syria is about 12 hours, 52 minutes from Turkey by road and 1 hour, 15 minutes by flight.
