The Ondo House of Assembly has impeached the Deputy Governor of the state, Alhaji Ali Olanusi this morning on 27th April 2015.
According to reports reaching us, the motion for the impeachment was moved by the house Majority Leader, Ifedayo Akinsoyinu and seconded by Olatunji Dauro from Ondo West II and Owo II respectively. When the motion was put to vote, 22 legislators out of 26 supported Alhaji Ali Olanusi‘s impeachment.
The estranged Deputy Governor has been ordered by the speaker Rt. Hon Jumoke Akindele to submit all government property in his possession to the Permanent Secretary of the Deputy Governor’s office.
Alhaji Ali Olanusi has been under pressure to quit office since he decamped from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the opposition party in the state. It will be recalled that some members of National Association of Ondo State Students (NAOSS) attacked the convoy of Alhaji Ali Olanusi because, according to the National President, Afolayan Simeon;
We do not want a dormant Deputy Governor. We want a younger person who will be active, so baba should resign within seven days and if he fails to do so we will appeal to the State House of Assembly to impeach him.
The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) however condemned the attacks by NAOSS.
