Nigerian Pharmaceuticals executive who was on the run for illegal sale of codeine, has been arrested.
Mr Chukwunonye Madubuike was arrested and detained close to the border with Benin Republic. He went on the run in May after he was recorded illegally selling codeine syrup to an undercover BBC reporter.
Madubuike was a business development executive with Emzor pharmaceuticals and was sacked after the video aired on BBC.
Lagos state commisioner of police, Imohimo Edgal, said the suspect was arrested in the border town of idiroko in Ogun State, on his way to Cotonou, Benin Republic.
Mr Edgal explained that Madubuike, in his statement, said that he “was only trying to meet his sales target”, acknowledged he should have carried out greater checks to verify the identity of the person he was dealing with and “regretted selling controlled substances to unauthorised persons”
Since the documentary was aired, the sale of codeine syrup is non-existent.
