Popular award winning Nollywood movie producer and director Kunle Afolayan made some controversial statements yesterday about the Igbo‘s influence in the movie distribution and promotion industry in Nigeria, blaming them for widespread piracy. Kunle Afolayan made these statements few hours after the Oba of Lagos, Oba Rilwan Akinolu threatened the Igbos in Lagos concerning the upcoming governorship election scheduled for Saturday, 11th April.
Kunle Afolayan stated the Igbo people are behind movie piracy in the country and they have caused Movie producers so much loss in the industry despite all their trial to stop them.
Nigerians didn’t take the statements lightly as it all looked like he is in support of Oba Rilwan‘s earlier threats against Igbo people living in Lagos.

You want to know. Ok. The Pirates already have October 1 and have been threatening the distributor that they will release this week.
They have releases phone swap, tango with me, 30 days and many more.Most of you patronizes these criminals and come here to judge me.
The benefits. Something drastic has to be done. Period. Crucify yourself if you want.
We have written to The Police,NCC and other agencies. Whats the outcome?Nothing. Sure you are waiting for me to come beg to feed my family.
My distributor is Igbo,I like and trust him but he mentions his frustration all the time.His kings-men are on his tail.We are all frustrated.
Kunle Afolayan who won the most awards in the last Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards (AMVCA) for his October 1 movie however made a u-turn later on and apologized for his remarks.
Am really sorry if my Igbo fans and friends feel offended.I am just so bitter and pained. I am truly sorry.
Apologies ones again to my offended innocent Igbo brothers and sister, maybe it’s wrong timing and mind you o didn’t say all Igbo.
I am a patriotic Nigerian and that I portray in all my movies. Phone swap is even more of Igbo film than any other tribe. Again. I am sorry.
Finally, I stand to say my grievances has got nothing to do with the trending Oba‘s statement. It all came out of frustration. Sorry guys.
Comedian and show host Ali Baba also supported Afolayan, claiming he knows him to be a just man that sees beyond ethnicity. He stated;
BY THE WAY I KNOW @kunleafolayan HE IS A DETRIBALIZED GUY… HE WAS JUST IN THE THROES OF PAIN FRON THE LOST REVENUE. HE HAS APOLOGIZED.
