Minister of Information, Alhaji Lai Mohammed has revealed that federal government has invited Anthony Joshua, the world heavyweight champion, to the country.
The British boxer of Nigerian decent defeated Wladimir Klitschko to emerge the heavyweight champion last weekend.
Consequently, the Nigerian government has invited him to the country to share his recent victory with the people of Nigeria.
Anthony Joshua has also declared his love for Nigeria in a recent interview.
“My heart is in Nigeria, My heart is in Britain. I am a Nigerian man by blood, yes,” he quoted Joshua as saying in a recent interview, during which the boxer also said the secret of his success was eating pounded yam, eba and egusi,” he had said.
The 27-year-old boxer has been praised globally for his stamina and agility after he defeated the 41-year-old Wladimir Klitschko by a technical knockout in the 11th round of their pulsating fight.
However, Nigerians were unhappy when it was revealed that the excellent boxer was denied the opportunity of fighting for Nigeria. He now competes for the United Kingdom where he lives with his mother.
In spite of not fighting for Nigeria, Joshua said he still has love for the country and will visit soon.
