The former Nigerian president, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo has allegedly advised President Muhammadu Buhari to imprison the immediate past president, Goodluck Jonathan.
According to SAHARA REPORTERS, Obasanjo made the suggestion last weekend, during his private meeting with President Buhari.
Obasanjo was one of the fiercest critics of the Goodluck Jonathan’s administration. He once denounced Jonathan’s administration as corrupt and directionless.
Even after Jonathan had left office, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo still asked President Muhammadu Buhari to send Goodluck Jonathan behind bars.
Obasanjo listed the fraudulent selling of Nigeria’s crude oil and the arms import scams as two allegations that can be used to imprison Jonathan.
Chief Olusegun Obasanjo also applauded the anti-corruption war of President Muhammadu Buhari and pledged to do all things within is power to assist the present government.
As regards his party affiliation, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo said he remains “partyless”. However, he said he will continue to play his role as a statesman. Obasanjo said he is ready to advise and work with any government or political party.
Chief Olusegun Obasanjo told Punch Newspaper that;
“We should understand first that, not the party makes the person, but the person makes the party. It is who you are that you bring into the party. Though for now I remain a “party-less” Nigerian, but I will continue to welcome any Nigerian with good leadership qualities.”
”It does not matter which party you are, either the PDP, the APC, Labour, APGA or any party at all, As long as you are committed, sincere and a purposeful leader, I am ready for you”.
