African Independent Television (AIT) has been barred from covering activities of the President-Elect, General Muhammadu Buhari until further notice.
This happened today. Monday 27th April, 2015 as AIT crew was asked to leave the Defense House premises where General Muhammadu Buhari was scheduled to have a meeting with a Cuban delegation led by it Ambassador to Nigeria. The security team of the president-elect said it was as a result if certain “security concerns.”
According to the Punch, the APC Presidential Campaign Organization’s Director of Press, Mallam Garba Shehu confirmed the suspension saying that;
AIT has been asked to stay aside based on security and family concerns. In addition, General Buhari has decided that they will have to resolve some issues relating to issues of standard and ethics. We will be talking with them to try and resolve the matter but for now, the station has been asked to stay aside because, like I said, there are some family and security concerns. They have been asked to step down their coverage until we resolve the matter with them on ethics and standards.
Recall that AIT aired an anti-Buhari documentary during the presidential campaign and were sued by the General Buhari. Can this be payback time?
